Mental Health Support for Fraternities and Sororities
Fraternities and sororities play an integral role in supporting the mental health of the young people they serve. Building systems to protect members’ emotional well-being is hard work, and it may call for resources and expertise beyond what a fraternal organization has in place. The Jed Foundation (JED) leverages two decades of expertise and our evidence-based approach to help organizations envision and implement a mental health safety net for members and their chapters.

Greek-Letter Organizations Technical Assistance Program
JED’s Technical Assistance program offers expert support, evidence-based recommended practices, and data-driven guidance to protect young adult mental health and prevent suicide. During the two-year program, JED helps fraternities and sororities assess their unique needs to inform the development of a strategic plan to address the organization’s priorities. As part of the program, JED works with Greek-letter organizations to improve substance misuse prevention through JED’s customized workshop with Partnership to End Addiction and to increase their knowledge about hazing prevention through a workshop in partnership with the Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research.
In addition to the two-year technical assistance program, JED also offers customized consulting agreements for organizations looking to target specific areas of need.
An Evidence-Informed Mental Health Technical Assistance Program for Greek-Letter Organizations
We understand that each organization is unique, which is why we begin with an assessment of your organization’s mental health needs. We then work together to develop a customized strategic plan to meet your organization’s goals.
Our experts review existing policies and procedures to help your organization make informed decisions based on clinically informed and peer-reviewed recommended practices. Reviews may include crisis intervention, hazing prevention, bullying and cyberbullying, sexual assault prevention, substance use and misuse, warm hand-offs for mental health support, and postvention planning to ensure member support in the aftermath of a tragedy.
As you implement your strategic plan, our team provides evidence-informed guidance grounded in our Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention. Our collaborative approach to technical assistance gives you the support you need to promote positive young adult mental health throughout your organization.
Using our customized pre- and post-assessments and actionable reports, we provide your organization with impact data from the start to the end of the program to demonstrate progress and outline future steps for maintaining the work.
